Fleet information

The group owns four heavy lift vessels; Eagle, Falcon, Osprey and Hawk. The ships are owned by single purpose limited companies.

All of the company’s vessels are former tanker vessels that have been converted into heavy lift vessels. The conversion of the former aframax tankers Eagle and Falcon was carried out at Gdansk Shiprepair Yard Remontowa S.A. in Poland, and included significant steel works in addition to a general upgrading of the vessels. The conversion of the former suezmax tankers Osprey and Hawk has been carried out at Huarun Dadong Dockyard Co. Ltd. in China, and involved the construction of a new mid-ship section purpose built for heavy lift operations.

Although all of the ships were originally built in the 1980s, the vessels can be expected to have an operating life of at least 20 years from the date of conversion. This life expectancy is based on the significant upgrading that was performed in connection with the conversions, including large steel replacements, coatings and paintings, refurbishments of machinery and on the basis of expected maintenance as required during the operating life of the vessels.

Maintenance of the fleet to ensure a reliable and safe operation is critical to the success of the company. OHT will spend considerable resources to maintain and support the fleet as well as training of the shipboard crew. Furthermore, the company will ensure that all involved management companies operate to the highest standards. A preventive maintenance approach has been implemented in the fleet to ensure predictable running costs and minimum down time.

Risk assessment and adherence to sound working principles play an integral part in all of the company’s activities. Every cargo operation is carefully planned and simulated in advance by experienced engineers using state of the art computer technology. Each loading cargo operation is supervised by experienced loading masters.
