IMO 2020 Compliant
OHT will have installed exhaust gas cleaning systems (scrubbers) on all vessels from 1st January 2020 in order to meet the SOx emission requirements by IMO (International Maritime Organization).
We started the scrubber installations on the first vessel already last year and this will be completed by end 2019 for all five vessels. The installations are and will be certified by DNV GL.
For ships operating outside designated Emission Control Areas (ECAS), IMO has set a limit for sulphur in fuel oil used on board ships of 0.50% m/m (mass by mass) down from 3.50% m/m. There is an even stricter limit of 0.10% m/m already in effect in the emission control areas. This 0.10% m/m limit applies in the established ECA zones.
The scrubbers will significantly reduce the amount of sulphur oxide emanating from our ships and should have major health and environmental benefits for the world. Prevention of Air Pollution seeks to control airborne emissions (sulphur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), ozone depleting substances (ODS), volatile organic compounds (VOC) and shipboard incineration and their contribution to local and global air pollution, human health issues and environmental problems.
