Join us in industrializing green energy
OHT is a specialized heavy transport and installation contractor, building on Norway’s long and proud heritage in maritime innovation. Since the company was founded in 2006, we have successfully executed complex projects on behalf of our customers. We serve clients from a wide range of industries including Oil & Gas, Offshore Wind and Marine Infrastructure. Handling oversized and challenging cargoes is our trademark, and we are proud of having transported well over a hundred jack-up drilling rigs for the majority of rig-owners in the world.
OHT has ordered an innovative heavy lift installation vessel from a yard in China. With this vessel OHT is transforming from a transportation provider to becoming a full transport & installation (T&I) contractor. The ship of Alfa Lift design is a response to the increasing demand for efficient transportation and installation solutions within the offshore wind market.
By the end of the transformation we expect to grow significantly while still maintaining the hallmarks of a small company: varied work tasks and close links from the work desk to the action on board. Our operations take place on all continents. We offer a very stimulating workplace with a workforce with almost no turn-over.
We are now looking to fill the following two positions:
HSEQ Manager & Structural Engineer
In this role you will mold the future HSEQ system as we develop into a T&I contractor. The system will comprise ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications and may be expanded in the future.
Key tasks and responsibilities
- Be our inhouse champion and guiding the organization towards ever better HSEQ performance.
- Act as facilitator for the management in promoting HSEQ work and mindset throughout the organization and its subcontractors.
- Maintain the HSEQ systems as system responsible
- OHT’s HSEQ representative in tenders and projects
- Carrying out audits of OHT’s departments and its subcontractors
- Facilitating HAZID/HAZOP and risk reviews
- Leading OHT Management during audits and any follow up work
- Develop and conduct training
- Leading incident investigations if required
- Travelling to clients, subcontractors, and work sites
Higher education either in engineering or nautical fields
The person to fill the role should have a practical and rational approach to HSEQ work. This means to have a good understanding of qualitative and quantitative methods and knowing which to use when and to be familiar with computer tools.
The HSEQ manager must be assertive while at the same time be a motivator for colleagues with more commercial or technical bias.
Finally, in addition to being inspirational and rational, the HSEQ manager must be service-minded and show a can-do-attitude to help colleagues reaching their targets.
Experience and skills
The ideal candidate has around 10 years of experience. You will be the only person working full time with HSEQ. We want to exceed the expectations of our clients and you must be able to develop the HSEQ system to the required level. We think that a background from energy or demanding shipping sectors would be valuable.
It is being said that you never get a second chance to make a first impression. As part of our tender team you will be writing the project HSEQ documentation in English.
Our structural engineer will be a key person in the small engineering team as a champion of structural calculations of ship structures, mission equipment, grillages, and sea fastening. A broader spectrum of skills will be welcomed as one of our great competitive advantages is the flexibility and versatility of our engineering team members. We foster a work environment that is conducive to personal growth by allowing employees to go to site to attend projects during key phases and working with the operations team to understand requirements and limitations.
Key tasks and responsibilities
- Concept design of grillage and sea fastening
- Hand calculations
- Proficiency with structural analysis and design software
- Analysis of ship structure and other structures as required in projects
- Guidance and review of peers
- Guidance of operational team
- Traveling to clients, subcontractors, and work sites
MSc or similar
Experience and skills
The ideal candidate has 5-10 years of experience. You will be expected to produce reports to document your work and above average English skills will be required. You will also be in interdisciplinary, international teams where good communication skills help minimize project risk.
The engineering team is small, and we take pride in cross training and flexibility. It will be an advantage if you have experience in marine engineering fields like hydrodynamics, heavy crane lifts, stability or load outs.
We are dealing with ships in operation and you will experience changing tasks and priorities sometimes several times in a day. You must thrive in this environment and take personal responsibility for the continued operation of our ships. This will inevitably mean that sometimes you will have late evenings in the office or sitting down in your home office on a Sunday. This will in turn give you the opportunity to take time off when the ships cross the oceans.
